Thanks a lot to those who have been coming to the first few meetings, and thanks to everybody who signed up to volunteer at Club Day. Sign-ups are still open, we would like as many members to attend as possible! :] These are the people signed up so far:

New Positions (up for grabs!)

I hope you had a great holiday season, and had plenty of time to relax and have fun. As things are gearing back up for AGS next semester, I want everyone to know about the position openings, starting at the beginning of the Spring semester. Let me know what you think, and if you have any questions about them. These positions will be open to all the continuing members. This would be a great way to still be involved in the club, and from now on, officers only need HALF of the point requirements.

1. Secretary/Records (if Jessica switches) deals with inter-club communication, and forms/records, meeting notes.

2. Publicity Director – must have decent time in schedule. In charge of staying informed of publicity needs (others should inform you, really) and making sure they are fulfilled. (includes scheduling people to set up signs/banners for fundraisers, events, booths, activities, meetings, etc.)

3. Fundraising Director – minimum of two events per month.

4. Community Service Director (On Campus) - organize minimum of three events per month.

5. Community Service Director (Off Campus) - organize minimum of three events per month.

6. Social Events Director – organize one event each month. In charge of polling club and getting good time and activity, and coordinating it. Also in charge of overseeing the cheer/roll call for Spring Conference.

7. ASB Liaison (attending ASB meetings or ASB Officer meetings) - One point per meeting. (must type up brief report and email to ALL officers/directors any necessary details of meeting in a timely manner)

8. Points – full update bi-weekly. In charge of emailing officers for point updates and inputting them online.

So if you are interested in being an officer next semester, let me know because we will be holding elections early on in the semester.

SPAM MASUBI will NOT be held in the HM bldg. Instead each member who would like to donate food will need to cook it at home and bring it to school on Thursday before 11am. Meet in the cafeteria to drop off cooked food (does not need to be assembled) and for volunteers to earn points.

What kind of food should you bring?
Spam (seared in a pan) - could be flavored or not
Sticky rice - no seasonings
Nori (aka seaweed) - large pages, not small strips
Teriaki sauce - if you feel daring!

We do appologize for the sudden inconvienence, but the HM bldg is still a classroom and we are not to disturb them while they are using the kitchen. Any questions, please call Jessica.

Hey everybody!
Just letting you know your point records are in progress. I've called, left messages, and followed up with all the organizations that you've volunteered for individually. Depending on how long it takes for the supervisors to get back to me, your individual project hours should be added within the next 3-7 days.

Also, if there are any corrections that need to be made to your point records, please let me know. If anybody drove to the conference in San Pablo, please let me know! That was 2 points.

All point requirements must be completed by Friday, December 3rd, UNLESS you are volunteering at PLP on the 3rd, RAFT on the 4th, or Renew the Zoo in San Francisco on the 11th (8am-11am).

You can earn 1 point at any on-campus event if you drive.

EOPS Ticket Sales:

AGS is supporting the EOPS program, an extended opportunity program for extra low-income students. In the past, EOPS provided emergency book funding, school supply packets that included highlighters, notebooks, index cards, binders, etc. Due to budget cuts, they are no longer able to provide many of those supplies. We are selling drawing tickets for gift baskets to help supplement this program. The baskets are on display at the EOPS office, they range from bath &body sets to food to Mission College supply sets. $3 for 1 ticket; $5 for 2 tickets. 1 Community Service Point per 5 tickets sold. AGS and EOPS REALLY NEED YOUR SUPPORT with this fund-raiser!!! Contact Tanya Smiley, VP, for tickets.

Prisoners' Literature Project

Hey everybody!
Just a reminder that we will be going to the Prisoners' Literature Project in Berkeley this Friday. Some details have changed, though.

Original start time: 1pm

New start time: 130pm

End time: 5 pr 530pm

Money needed: $4-5 for gas, $5-10 for food if you're staying late.

Meeting area: Parking lot A

Now that we know what the area is like, we don't have to leave until 12pm. That'll be an extra hour of rest for everybody!

After the project, we will be eating in Berkeley, probably something affordable like pizza or Subway again.

PLEASE let me know if you can drive! We have 8 people signed up and 4 still need a ride. I took my car last time, but now I don't know if it will survive a long drive :(

Great American Smokeout Week

Hey everybody!
Starting this week, we're going to need help mobilizing the Great American Smokeout movement. We are encouraging smokers throughout campus to quit on one day, Thursday, November 18th, in hopes that they will follow the habit on the days following.

Here's how you can help:

1) Handing out quit kits on campus:
Go to parking lots on campus and ask smokers if they would like quit kits. Whether they are interested or not, tell them to come to Student Health, Room W1-303, for more quit kits and quitting resources. Scripts and quit kits will be provided. If interested, please check in at the Student Health Services Office between 930am and 545pm Mondays through Thursdays. 1 Community Service point per hour.

2) Hang banners:
Raven has made banners for the Great American Smokeout Week, but they are chillin in the poster room. We need one person to hang them wherever there is space left. 1 community service point, sign your name on the sign-in sheet in the back corner of the ASB workshop and write "PUB-11.16" next to your name.

We're going to need everybody's support for this!

Second Harvest Food Drive

The food drive at Mission has started!

There are 4 barrels: in front of the counseling office, in front of the Welcom Desk (both in the main bldg), in front of the Info Desk (in the Campus Center), and inside the Hospitality Management bldg.

Tell your friends, family, coworkers, classmates, teachers, etc. to bring in canned foods and boxed fruit juices!

There are posters, flyers, cards, and banners all over campus, but word of mouth is the best publicity.

Also, for AGS members, whomever brings in the MOST food will be taken out to dinner by Jenifer Kovacs - your Programs Director :)

The drive ends NEXT Friday!

Let's help those in need for the upcoming Holiday season!

Hey everybody, I would like to congratulate all of you on all the great work you've done. The weekend was fun and productive and today's meeting was efficient and enjoyable. I have a lot to announce, so please pay attention to each item. New topics will be in bold letters, and I would like everybody's responses for each topic.

Great job at the blood drive, Mission AGS!
You guys did a great job recruiting, publicizing, taking care of the donors, and making the registration/check-in process go smoothly. Overall, we collected 125 units of blood!

Great turnout at the Fall 2010 AGS Northern Regional Conference!!!

Thanks to everyone who came to support Mission AGS last Saturday. I hope you all learned a lot and had fun bonding with AGS members from Mission as well as other chapters! Roaming around Berkeley was fun too; we had lots of gelattos (or at least I did), went shopping on Shattuck, and ate at a pizza place called Jupiter, where we got to talk a little bit about what we liked, disliked, and learned from the conference.

This is a joint project with Diablo Valley, San Mateo, College of Marin, and Contra Costa AGS. Great opportunity to get to know members from other chapters! :)

Show some love to AGS at the College of San Mateo!
Thanks to Niko Larot, President of AGS at CSM, for visiting Mission AGS at our meeting today. Now let's show love by visiting them at San Mateo on Tuesdays from 130pm-230pm. Niko said it only took him 20-30 minutes to get from CSM to Mission, but he was speeding. So it will probably be a 30-40minute drive. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to their meetings because I get off of work at 130-2pm on Tuesdays, but I would appreciate if someone could represent Mission at their meetings too! It's always good to network.

Donate paperbacks to the Elmwood Literacy Project!
This semester, Mission College AGS has adopted the ELP to supplement the male and female libraries and visitors' waiting rooms at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas. We're accepting paperbacks. Any genre is accepted, but self-help, psychology, NA/AA, and children's books are recommended. Please get support from your instructors, classmates, friends, Facebook friends, Treasure Abyss neighbors, etc.! I would like to donate as many books as possible so the libraries have more selections. The higher the literacy rate of an inmate, the lower the chances of recidivism (repeat offenses). Make Santa Clara County a better place by offering an inmate the opportunity for a college education!

Publicity Committee - We need YOU!
All are welcome to help with the publicity committee; we need volunteers ASAP! We need creative people to make banners and fliers to post around campus. Great job to those who have made banners for the EOPS fund-raiser, Second Harvest Food Drive, and the Campus Cleanups! Now we need help TODAY and all week to create banners for the Great American Smokeout.

More information:

The week of November 15-19 is Great American Smokeout Week. We at Student Health will be spending the week to encourage smokers to quit smoking. Some of our employees will be walking around the designated smoking areas to pass out QuitKits to thank smokers for complying with the anti-smoking policy on campus (by taking their smoking sessions away from the school buildings) and also to encourage them to think about quitting. Thursday, November 18th, will be the Great American Smokeout day. We will ask smokers to quit smoking for just that day in hopes that they will slow down in the following days and weeks. What Ros is asking from AGS is if we could ask our publicity committee to paint banners to hang around campus that say:

1) Encourage your loved ones to quit smoking on the week of 11.15-11.19!

5pm-730ish - team bonding, dinner and project reflection at Berkeley. Last time we had Subway, but some members brought Little Ceasar's from next door.
Task: Answer letters from inmates who request books. Many prisons have cut their educational resources such as college courses, libraries, and some don't even offer books. Along with a response letter, you will send 2 or 3 books that the inmates request. These books are donated from local book stores, libraries, etc. Inmates are always very grateful that we help them continue on their path towards a better quality of life.

EOPS Fund-raiser:
We're selling drawing tickets to raise funds for the EOPS program here at Mission. "The EOPS program is designed to support students who enter college at an educational and economic disadvantage. With the aim of enabling these students to successfully complete their educational goals, it provides services 'above and beyond' those offered to the general population of the college."
EOPS has been supporting low-income students for a long time. Unfortunately, the budget cuts have hit us all very hard and it's time for AGS to give back and support this program. One thing EOPS is known for is extending efforts to give each student better education. Each semester, they offer supply bags to students, which include scantrons, pencils, pens, index cards, filler paper, highlighters, etc. They also offer extra cash aid. 100% of the proceeds from this fund-raiser will go towards the EOPS program.

We AGS members will be selling raffle tickets:
$3 for a single ticket, $5 for two tickets
Tickets will be sold from today until December 2nd.
Prizes are themed gift baskets - Bath &Body Works, etc.
Ticket buyers don't have to be here on the day of the drawing; winners will be contacted.

RENEW THE ZOO! This Saturday!

The second Saturday of every month, the San Francisco Zoo hosts "Renew The Zoo". This is an opportunity to volunteer at the zoo doing basic landscaping, and upkeep in the gardens. Afterwards, volunteers get free admission to the zoo and a free ride on the zoo's train.

When: This Saturday, meet at Mission at 6:45am, volunteering from 8am - 11am
Where: San Francisco Zoo
Points: 3 points for volunteering, 2 points for driving.
Money: if you are carpooling, bring at least a few dollars for gas! Don't leave the drivers to cover it all!

Hey everybody!

We are only HALFWAY DONE with Mission College AGS's JUICY WEEK!

The blood drives have just ended and I would just like to thank EVERYBODY for TWO successful blood drives in a row!!!

Thanks to:

Mission College Student Health Services for coordinating the entire event, from health history screenings to confirming donation appointments.

EVERYBODY who donated! The bay area only has enough blood stored for one day. In situations like the San Bruno fire, the blood supply was extremely deficient. You guys helped add to that supply. I would also like to thank the huge amounts of donors sent from the Mission College Baseball team, Fire Tech, and EMT's!!! You guys put it down

Mission College Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society for:

their dope recruiting, we overshot our appointment goals (60 appointments for both days) and booked 90 DONORS EACH DAY!!!
a bomb job at recruiting donors for BE THE MATCH Donor Registry
keeping the registration lines going smoothly, you guys handled situations very well.

everything you've contributed to the blood drive! So far, numbers aren't in but for sure we exceeded our unit goal for BOTH DAYS!!!

Friday, 10.29: 1pm-5pm AGS will be volunteering at Prisoners' Literature Project in Berkeley, CA; answering letters from inmates all over the country and sending them books that they request. Why give books? Because more time spent on academic activity = lower recidivism rates.

Saturday, 10.30: 8am-1pm AGS will be Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy!! Let us know if you're down to cheer on the walkers/runners as they pass by! Everybody is welcome, we would love anybody's support! :))

AGS members show support and repost! AND and and, LET's GET IT!!! ONLY three days left of this week! But just because this work week stops on Saturday, don't think that's the end of it! This is what it's gonna look like until dead week, when we're legally prohibited to do anything as a club. :(

Blood Donor Recruitment and Blood Drives

Hey guys,
Just to clarify:
Signing in and signing up are two different things.

Signing up means to tell the AGS officers and Student Health Services that you will be able to help recruit blood (this week) and help at the Canteen or Registration. You sign up with the officers.

Signing in means that you're ready to help that day and Student Health will give you all the materials to do so, and they'll send you to the cafeteria or the center space to recruit. That is when you go to the Student Health Services office. For the actual blood drive, you will be signing in at the center space.

Regardless, thank you for your time and effort. We still have to overshoot our goals, and we have less than a week left to do so! Let's get it guys!

Working the Blood Drive Oct. 26th and 27th

Hey everyone,

The Blood Drive is in 2 weeks and we still need to fill spots. It would be amazing if there were volunteers to recruit doners next week. The Student Health Services has all the information on who is eligible to donate and all you have to do is show up, Monday through Friday between 11am and 5pm, and sign in at room W1-303. There will be information provided. You have 2 choices:

1. Pick a spot on campus and ask passer-byers if they would like to donate.
2. Walk around campus and ask individuals if they would like to donate.

1 hour = 1 point!!!! There are a lot of open slots we need to fill, if we can't make this work then the we may not be able to host this event in the future :(

For those of you looking to sign up during the week to volunteer at the Blood Drive, feel free to comment on this post with your name, and the day and times you would like to volunteer. If you have a preference as to what you want to do, please list that as well.

The options are:

Tuesday Oct. 26th from 11am - 5pm
and/or
Wednesday Oct. 27th from 11am - 5pm

You can work either the Canteen (snacks and drinks after donating)
or the registration table.

Join your girls from Mission AGS in the fight against breast cancer!!

Hey everybody,
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. For the third year in a row, Mission AGS will be supporting the fight against Breast Cancer at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure event on Saturday, October 30th at Guadalupe River Park.

Last year, AGS helped by cheering on crowds as they passed up street corners.

This year, I would like everybody from AGS to show up to this event. It's really fun and everybody's really positive.

Details:
Saturday, October 30th, 8am-130pm
5.5CS points if you attend the entire event
If you need a ride, show up at Mission at 8am, drop off circle between parking lots A and B.
If you're driving there, parking fees will range from $0-$4, depending on where you park.
Meet up at the Start/Finish line. (Start and Finish are the same; the track is a big circle).
Directions: Google "Guadalupe River Park Conservancy."
Dress code: No dress code, you will be getting a t-shirt from the American Cancer Society to indicate that you are a volunteer, but I would dress warm for this event.

Student Health 101

Hey guys!
You may or may not have heard, but Mission College Student Health has just signed a contract with an online college health magazine called Student Health 101. SH101 includes fliers for Mission College's health-related events as well as articles and interviews regarding student health topics.

If you browse around, you can see video interviews of students all over the country. My job is to interview Mission College students on the topic of the month and include those interviews in each month's issue. I am aiming to interview a diverse group of people, each individual coming from different academic fields, athletic groups, clubs, etc. and I thought it was a good idea to include the honor society.

The topic of the month for November is stress. I'm going to be asking questions like:
For the more "involved" students:
1) What kinds of academics and extracurriculars are you involved with (i.e. physics class, calculus, ASB, clubs etc.)
2) What pushes you to be involved with these things? Why do you feel like you have to do so much? Do you feel like you have to be?
3) What do you do to prevent burnout and what do you do to relax and get yourself together?
For the more "laid-back" students:
1) Why do you choose not to be actively involved with the campus?
2) What are your opinions on extracurriculars?

It depends on your own judgement to determine whether or not you are actively involved with Mission College. Please let me know as soon as possible whether or not you are interested in representing AGS. Submissions for the November issue are due on October 15th.

Each video will be about 1-2 minutes long, but recording, cutting, re-recording, and all that good stuff will take at least half an hour.

You can get community service points depending on how long your interview takes.

This is my availability for interviews:
Monday - 530-930 I work at the info desk, but it's pretty dead after about 7pm.
Tuesday - 930am-4pm
Wednesday - 2pm-6pm
Thursday - 12pm-4pm
Friday - 11am-8pm. I have AGS office hours, but I can set some aside if this is a good time for any of you guys to get interviewed.
Saturday - 11am-8pm

Welcome all to my VERY first post for AGS! I am proud to announce a wonderful oppertunity to help the community:

Pumpkins in the Park is an event organized by the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy held annually on Friday, October 8th (set-up) and Saturday, the 9th (event day). The event is for friends and families of the Bay Area. MANY volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks: selling raffle tickets, surveys, food/beverages, set-up, tear-down, and others. The address is Guadalupe River Park/Discovery Meadow 180 Woz Way, San Jose, Ca 95110.

CityTeam Kitchen Detail (FULL) (CS): Tomorrow at 9am-12pm
580 Charles St., San Jose, CA
To volunteer with the group here, you were supposed to register online with CityTeam. It was a quick sign-up, but all the slots are full. We'll be preparing, cooking, and serving meals to residents of the drug recovery residence and homeless/low-income guests. Please dress conservatively, and please no gang colors. Show up at the drop-off circle between parking lots A and B tomorrow morning if you need a ride.

Elmwood Literacy Project (CS): Tuesday 2-4pm
We're collecting paperback books to donate to the Elmwood male and female libraries and the children's waiting room. Things that need to be done:

Create fliers to post around campus
Paint banners to hang around campus
Find huge boxes that we can put around school

International Potluck and Picture Day (G): Monday 215-330pm
The next meeting is just going to be a kickback meeting. Nothing too crazy, just an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. Please bring finger foods, snacks, or drinks from a foreign country. Also, don't forget to wear your AGS t-shirt or a red t-shirt. We'll be taking our group picture for the Northern Regional Conference.

Campus Cleanup (CS): Friday 10am-1pm.
Save our school! ... We can start by picking up trash on campus. This time, we need to emphasize cleaning around the bus stop area. The school has been warned by the VTA - if Mission College's bus stop isn't cleaned, we're going to lose it. Check in with Jen at the Center Space at 10am, if she's not there call 510.493.3198.

Blood Donor Recruitment (CS): Monday to Thursday, 11am-5pm, starting October 5th until October 26th.
October is our blood month! Every weekday this month until the 26th, we'll be putting out tables in the cafeteria and center space to recruit blood donors. When you recruit people to donate blood, you ask them to: 1) Read the donation regulations 2) Choose two times they can donate 3) Enter contact info, consent signature
Need at least 4 people per shift. Sign in and out at the Student Health Services Office, room W1-303 (back of the main building, first floor, facing portable/MT buildings.)

Digital Records Committee (G): Need at least 2 people for this committee ASAP.
Tasks:

Transfer registration information to logs in Google Docs.
Create an online photo storage account for the group

Communications Committee (G): Need as many people as possible for this comittee ASAP, preferably can meet on Tuesdays 2-4pm or Fridays anytime between 1-4pm.

Need people to make phone calls, e-mails, texts, facebook messages, create alerts, etc. to confirm shifts, carpool, and other event logistics.

Fund-raising Committee (F/G): Need as many people as possible to create events that will help us make money!

Programs Committee (G): Need as many people as possible to contact local non-profit agencies where we can volunteer, as well as create service projects of our own. Your intelligence is always greatly appreciated!

Snacks and Food Committee (G): Need 2-3 people + treasurer on this committee ASAP
Food makes people happy, especially at AGS meetings. Tasks:

Make sure there are salty snacks, sweets and healthy snacks at every meeting
If our snack/drink supply is low, shop (for reasonable prices) at Costco before the meeting (will be reimbursed). For now, the snacks being bought should be approved before the purchase. Turn in receipt to Treasurer for reimbursement.

Northern Regional Conference (G): Saturday, November 6th, 8am-3pm

I'm planning on creating a committee dedicated to helping the victims of the fire in San Bruno and I need your talent and creativity! All you need to do here is shoot me your contact information if you're interested. You can get 1 general point for attending the meeting and contributing your ideas, plus community service points if we do find a community service activity like helping clean up the site.

I found this on Facebook and I just thought I'd share it. I'm also writing an emergency item for Mission College ASB to hold a food drive starting Wednesday, 09.15. I really hope it gets approved. Feel free to post any information regarding relief here!

Alpine Inn in Daly City is offering free rooms for San Bruno victims. (415) 334-6969. Donate clothes/shoes/blankets at San Bruno church. Spread the word!!

We're going to need help on Club Days, Monday, September 13th and Tuesday, September 14th, 10am-1pm on both days. You can get fund-raising points and general points for different things:
1 fund-raising point for donating 3 packs of seaweed
1 fund-raising point for donating 3 cans of Spam

Hey everybody!
Just a few quick updates for the week.

Congratulations to Jenifer Kovacs and Erika Soto on completion of training for the positions of Programs Directors. These two will be in charge of the Programs Committee, creating community service projects for the year. What does that mean for them? They will be responsible for creating descriptions of the projects; explaining why they chose those projects; who will benefit; step-by-step procedures of what we as volunteers have to do; and recruiting volunteers to make sure that each shift is filled. This committee is open to all who are interested in event planning and fund raising. Hey everybody!
Welcome to the club to any newcomers; welcome back to all you returning members! I hope you all are enjoying your summer. The board has been working hard this past week after a long, relaxing vacation. We've come up with many new delegations, requirements, and fun activities for the year. If you'd like to see a formal version of the things we talked about today, look over to the bars on the right where it says "Minutes" and click on "Board Meeting Minutes 08.11.10."

For the potential new members:
A lot of you have received the e-mail sent out that says you're eligible for membership and you would like to know the further steps to take.

1) Come to the first meeting on Monday, August 30th, 2:15 p.m. in Campus Center Room 219 to pick up a membership application. If you are unable to make it to the meetings, shoot an e-mail to jessica.page0316@gmail.com or ags.mission@gmail.com. You may also stop by Aaron Malchow's office on the Northeast corner of the third floor or in the ASB mailbox.

2) Turn in the application along with a $15 Active Membership Fee and your schedule of classes for the fall semester.

3) If you are currently employed, pick up an Employment Verification Form at one of the meetings. The number of hours you work weekly may affect the point totals you are required to meet.

For anybody who has questions or who would like to meet with an officer in person, stop by the ASB office located in the Campus Center, 2nd floor - go up the stairs and make a U-turn; it's the second door to the right. Officers available:

Here are a few descriptions of the volunteer and welcome week events:

Welcome Center Tours: Monday to Thursday, 9am-1pm and 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Note: You can choose one or two hour shifts; you do not need to be there the entire time. Sign in and out at the Welcome Center with Betty Inouie, Jessica Page, Erika Soto, or one of Betty's assistants. There will be about a ten-minute orientation when you sign in. You should know the campus pretty well for this task because you'll be leading new students to rooms, offices, the gym, etc. You must wear your red AGS t-shirt from spring 2010 so students can distinguish you from the crowd.

Popcorn - it gets really busy so we'll need 3 people per shift:
1 person to pop open bags and refill seeds (I only say this is a tedious task because you can burn your hands)
1 person to bag the popcorn
1 person to hand out bags of popcorn as well as AGS fliers, try to recruit new members

Cotton Candy:
1 person to hand it out and talk to students
1 person to spin the cone in the sugar

Need Volunteers + New Officer Training

Hey guys!
Here are a few updates for the next few weeks:

Blood Drive Recruitment - Congratulations everybody, we've exceeded our goal of 70 donors! Now at the Student Health Services office all we have to do is confirm appointments and focus on recruiting donors for the Alyx system (Double Red Blood Cell count - 5'1 &150lbs. for males, 5'5 &150lbs. for females).

Marrow Drive publicity - please announce the Marrow Drive in your classes - just give everybody a heads up that we're recruiting marrow donors on the day of the blood drive. No clinical donation procedures on that day; all we ask is for fifteen minutes of paper work and a cheek swab (q-tip) DNA sample.

Blood &Marrow Drive 03.25, 11am-5pm Center Space - 3 possible positions
a) Donor canteen - pamper donors after their donation process! Make sure they're hydrated and fed. Don't let them leave if they haven't sat down for at least 15 minutes, no matter what size they are or how strong they appear. If they want a drink or a snack, you're responsible for bringing it to them. Ask how they're doing, if they're feeling okay, and if it looks like they're about to pass out, call the nurse or supervisor with the bell and everybody will run to your patient. All the ARC staff are VERY alert.

b) Registration - Check donors in, have them read informational pamphlets while they're waiting to be called.

c) Marrow Donor Recruiter - Pull people from the crowd or from outside of the main building to donate marrow. Only paperwork &cheek swab is required.

Welcome back to AGS. Here are the updates if you haven't gotten my e-mail:

1) Applications due Monday, March 22nd during the meeting. Three parts required: Application, application fee, and class schedule.

2) Sign up for Cinequest: Matt, Travis, Natalie, and I will be there 4:30pm. It would be preferred that anybody working this shift leaves around 8:30, but you’re welcome to stay longer and leave earlier as long as you notify me, Travis, or Matt. Meet up at the San Jose Reparatory Theatre at 4:30. Parking around the entire theatre area is free; you will receive a validation ticket when you check in at the Rep. Please sign up before 6pm on Thursday.

3) Thursday, Feb. 25, 4pm: Anybody interested in vacant positions (Publicity, Programs Director, or Minutes Secretary) can meet me up in the ASB Office (Campus Center, upstairs, make a U-turn). I’ll be giving job descriptions and evaluating prospective officers. All tasks are divided among the entire team, so don’t be intimidated by any position! It’s a good way to build leadership experience.

4) Any ideas or expectations for AGS for this coming semester and year are not only welcome but also VERY much appreciated. You can come to the meeting on Thursday to talk about them or shoot me an e-mail, text, or facebook message any time. We already have a lot planned, but we always like to hear from the entire team about:

a. Community service, fund-raising, and general events (workshops that you would like presented to AGS and the public by staff or guest speakers)

b. Changes for the better of the campus

c. Membership growth/publicity

5) AGS State Conference on Saturday, April 17th, 8am-11pm @San Jose DoubleTree. All the active AGS chapters in California will be coming for workshops, food, and a formal banquet. Registration is $130, but we will be doing lots of fund-raising to cut the cost. Registration due by March 12th.

CINEQUEST Orientation

Hey everyone,

I just got an email from CineQuest about their volunteer orientation. This year marks their 20th year of CineQuest, and it's supposed to be awesome. The Actual Film Festival is Feb. 23rd to March 7th.

The orientation is on SUNDAY, JANUARY 24th, from 10:00-11:30am at Camera 12 Cinemas downtown.

If you still need fund-raising points, your next opportunity is our Pasta Pomodoro Partnership. Hand out fliers to everyone you know and for every five people you get to go to Pasta Pomodoro on November 16th, 17th, or 18th, you get one point. Make sure your name is on their flier! Ask for fliers from Travis. AGS will be going to dinner as a group on Tuesday, 11.17 at 8pm. It's at McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas. Bring cash to make payment process easier. 20% of all proceeds go towards AGS.

Mission College Performing Arts Series!

11.06 and 11.08

E-mail from Mr. Joseph Ordaz. He will be stopping by our next meeting.

The next concert that we need help with is the Mission College Symphony
concert on November 8. However, I usually can use a couple of people who
can help with set up on Friday, November 6 from about 10 AM - 12 noon.
There is some light lifting (setting up the concert shell, music stands
and chair,etc.)

On the day of the concert, I need a couple of people who can help out with
passing out programs and tickets and again, a couple of people to help
with tear down.
The people helping with programs and tickets need to be there about 1:15
until about 3 PM. The same people can help with tear down, but again
those helping with tear down need to be able to do some light lifting.
Tear down will take place as soon as the concert ends, around 3:30 and
usually takes about an hour.
So overall about 4-6 people, however some might be the same.

I will be assisting with both Sunday shifts. Sign up through this blog! Thanks guys :)

Hey guys!
A few updates for today:

1) We have lots of old business to finish up from today's agenda since the meeting had to end at 3. We will continue that next Monday. If you want, you can peep today's agenda for things you may have missed.
2) I've started updating the general and community service point records. They're available under the "Links" bar to the right ---->
The record is not complete, but I have to take a nap for now because I have to leave for work early in the morning. I'll be continuing with the rest of the records tomorrow! Also, most records having to do with the blood drive will have to wait until the end of each week. Those sign-in sheets are held by the Student Health Services office for convenience.
Another thing:
Maryam and Faith - Please submit your ID numbers so I can input your points on the website.
3) Please come to the next meeting with:
-INDIVIDUAL SERVICE POINT RECORDS if you would like to see and update of your point record. Those were due today.
-$15 tee shirt fee if you haven't paid already.
4) MSA's Report from Convoy to Palestine Event @Sorenson Hall tomorrow! Support MSA.

Updates 10.15

Hey guys,
Here are a few updates and things we will be asking of you for the next week or two:

1) Anyone &everyone is invited to stop by the ASB Halloween event brainstorming event on Monday, 10.19 at 1pm in the ASB Office. We pretty much have our event planned out. The only thing we need now is to help Jamie set up the games and prizes. They would still like for people to help with decorations, though.

2) THIS SATURDAY: Jen, Jamie, Trinh, Matt, and Travis - Meet up at the roundabout by the parking lot (not by the bus stop) at 7am on Saturday! Registration starts at 8am, but we're never sure how heavy traffic will be on the way to Santa Cruz. Bring about $5 for gas and at least $15 for a meal at the Santa Cruz Diner.

3) For Monday, please bring in your Individual Service Point Records. I will be updating all the point records next week.

4) Please bring in your t-shirt fee.

5) Anybody signed up to recruit for the blood drive, the Health Services office still needs you even though the work order for tables hasn't been approved. We should have tables by Monday, but I work with them tomorrow morning and I will confirm if we've been approved already.

Milpitas Food Pantry

Hey everyone,

We have another opportunity for community service. This is happening on November 7th. That's a month away, so don't plan anything for that day. We will be going to the Milpitas food pantry and helping out. I'm not sure what we will be doing, but I know that it will involve canned food. In total, you can earn up to 3.5 points( 3 1/2 hours.)

Details:

Meet there at 8:30 am (on the dot!! they won't sign your community service papers if you aren't there for the orientation.)
DO NOT WEAR OPEN TOED SHOES
Wear cloths that you can work in.
It will end at 12:00pm.

Thank you for agreeing to participate in the upcoming Student Services and Health Fair. The event is quickly approaching and this email will serve as your final confirmation.

EVENT: Thursday, October 8, 2009
TIMELINE: 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Set-up, tables will be labeled.
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Health & Student Success Fair. Please be prepared to stay through the duration of the event.
11:45 PM - 12:30 PM: Club Karaoke Battle (clubs will be asked to battle one another in a Karaoke contest)

LOCATION: Campus Center Quad. The weather forecast predicts sunshine and clouds, 74 degrees.

WE WILL PROVIDE:
* Bottled water and 1-2 lunch tickets (redeemable at the cafeteria).
* Table and chairs.

YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
* Handouts/brochures describing your organization
* Tablecloth
* Paperweights
* Giveaways (candy, marketing “toys”, pencils, etc.
* Sunglasses and sunscreen as needed
* In addition, the theme for 2009 is “Celebrating Diversity”. We will be playing “world music” and we encourage everybody on campus to have some fun and dress in a manner that represents their culture, heritage and/or diversity.

RAFFLE & PRIZES:
* Students will be encouraged to ask you meaningful questions about your organization in order to receive a red raffle ticket from you. We will bring the raffle tickets, and lunch tickets, to you during set up.

At our last meeting we decided as a group to donate a first-aid kit. We first decided that it should be made of candy, but if you think about it, that's against the purpose of the health fair and we should really think about just donating a first-aid kit instead... Or like a $25 gift card to Whole Foods. If 10 people are willing to donate $2.50 on Monday, we can get one... But this is also entirely up to you guys. Let me know what you think!

AGS T-Shirt Idea

Here is the basic idea for the T-shirts. There is a lot of room for improvement and when we actually print them they won't be this sloppy. The Greek AGS logo will be on the front and the "Sigma Iota Chapter..." will be on the back.

Other possible versions:
-Instead of having the torch logo in the middle, fade it and drag it higher so it's behind the "Sigma Iota Chapter"
-I know our shirt printers aren't going to be happy with me but I want my name on the butt. Instead of saying "Mission College" it could say "Missez President" :D Teehee. But that's going to take a whoooole lot of extra work.

Please leave your input here as a comment. We have a month left before the conference and it's going to take a while to get the shirts made.
